THE VINEYARDS

Il canale di Pirro

The sun crosses a turquoise sky and rests on an earth as red as fire. Among these elements there is the vineyard, true hallmark of an area full of beautiful Trulli, the typical buildings made of limestone. This is our home, Canale di Pirro, where the combination of landscape and agricultural identity is inseparable.

Murgia dei Trulli

We are on the southern slope of the Murgia hills. The sea is just few kilometers away and the picturesque village of Alberobello is very close. We are in a valley located at 400 meters above sea level, which is a karst depression with a special climate compared to the surrounding hills. Here, even in the height of summer, the temperature variations are considerable between day and night and very cool temperatures are reached which are beneficial to the crops.
The soil is mainly calcareous, very rich in marine fossils that prove the presence of the sea in this area in ancient times.
Our property covers 100 hectares, of which 18 with vineyards. They are lands facing South on the sunniest side of the estate, surrounded by the woods that enliven the sides of the valley and by orchards and arable land, in a game of alternating crops that draws an exclusive landscape.

Our land

Our land has a warmth and a “beat” of its own, which we feed thanks to minimal tillage of the land. We fertilize by sowing field beans, alternating it in the rows with grass. This allows us to obtain more fertile and compact soil, avoiding run-off phenomena when heavy rains occur.
